Chapter 16

DEAN PACED BACK AND forth in front of Ron and Christina.

“This is how it started last time,” He closed his eyes and rubbed his hand across his cheek. “Random violent deaths. Unexplained disappearances. Before long, the witch unleashed her full power.”

“What do you mean by full power?” Ron wasn't sure he really wanted to know the answer to his own question. But they needed to understand what they were dealing with here.

A tremor gripped Dean's body for a second as if he could see a visual representation of his words behind his eyelids. Dean opened his eyes again and fixed his gaze on both Ron and Christina.

“Something more terrifying than you can possibly imagine,” His lips trembled as those words escaped. “I failed in safeguarding the witch's prison. I can't fail in tracking her down.”

Christina gasped.

"Do you suppose this is connected to all the things we uncovered in that house?" she whispered to Ron.

Dean lurched forward and grasped her shoulders.

“What house?”

“The Graber house,” Christina pried his hands away from her shoulders. “Over in Willow Flats.”

Dean stepped back. His face tightened and his eyes drifted past them. Both of Dean's hands trembled even worse now.

“I have to go. I have to go now before it's too late.”

“Whoa. That's not a good idea,” Ron held up his hand. “That place is bad news.”

“It doesn't matter. I have a job to do.”

“We barely got out of there the first time around." He said, pointing to himself and Christina. "Between heads on the wall and strange vines everywhere and the woman in black –”

“Woman in black? Wearing a flowing gown and cloak?”

Christina's mouth dropped open. She trailed her fingers across her bottom lip.

“You've seen her too?”

“A long time ago. And I hoped not to see her again.”

Dean turned and started to march away from both teens. Christina glanced at Ron and then pointed at Dean's back.

“Stop him! We can't let him go there alone.”

“What do you want me to do? Tackle him?”

“If that's what it takes.”

Ron rushed forward. Dean dug into his pocket and spun around. He brandished a small pocket knife. The blade appeared slightly bent and it also had a discolored handle. Ron threw his hands up and backed away.

“It took some scrounging to find this,” Dean waved the knife at them. “But I need to protect myself. Ever since that kid knocked me out cold and stole the chest. I can't be too careful.”

Christina clapped her hands together as she caught up to Ron.

“She's gonna kill you," she said, pleading with Dean. "You gotta listen to us.”

“I know how to stop the witch,” Dean fished a folded paper out of the left breast pocket of his coat. The edges were crinkled and yellowed with age. “I have it all written down here. It worked last time.”

“You're just one person.”

“You can throw an army at her. Without the right words, it won't do any good. I have those words.”

“Let's go together,” Ron beckoned to him to draw closer and pointed to the parked cars.
